Deepa Krishnan

Deepa has over 18 years wide-ranging experience in media, six of which was spent covering markets and business in leading dailies The Economic Times, and Business Standard, with a brief stint in ETNow.

Her area of coverage has spanned commodity markets and commodity trading, finance and old economy businesses, to the small and medium business ecosystem and entrepreneurship. She also enjoyed writing general interest features, and travel stories.

In 2009-10, she spent a year at University of California, Berkeley as a Visiting Scholar at the Graduate School of Journalism. While there, she received funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to travel to Africa and study about farming, food and women’s issues in Africa.

She researched carbon forestry projects in Uganda, and published reports in leading international publications. She also looked into the women’s entrepreneurship models existing in the country.

Following this she was an independent communications professional based out of Mumbai, before joining the news agency Press Trust of India where she covered Startups, Venture Capital Funds, eCommerce, FMCG and Retail sectors between 2015-2019. Her last gig was as an editor with JM Financial Institutional Securities.

At Yellow Spark, she is actively involved in writing about trending HR topics and thought-provoking weekly blogs since 2019. She brings her vast experience of working with the press, knowledge about the business ecosystem and interactions with entrepreneurs in scripting HR related content while in parallel she is focusing on expanding her independent content and communications portfolio.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics, and a post-graduate diploma from Asian College of Journalism.

She’s currently parenting a busy toddler. When she gets a moment, she enjoys a cup of chai with a book. She loves traveling, and is always up for a good conversation, with good company!
